My name is Amy. Some of my friends call me Amy June. But just Amy is fine.
I’m a therapist, writer, and breathwork facilitator. The Softening is a flirtation with the nuances of modern life through the lens of mental health. My writing is a reflective, sometimes autobiographical practice as I try to figure out what’s what. Writing is the act of untangling, which we’re never quite done with.
My work is a confluence of my work as a therapist and the books piling up on my nightstand. While I love my work as a therapist, it’s important to say that this space is distinct and separate from my work as a clinician.
This space will always be free. In my cold war with social media, Substack has become a place of self-expression, community, and connections. It’s media that’s social in a way that works for my insides. I hope you can find that here, or somewhere.
While my Substack is free, I support myself through psychotherapy and facilitating breathwork. If you (or someone you love) may be interested in working together, please reach out. In spreading the word, you are supporting the time & energy I channel into The Softening.
I hope my experiences will stand as an invitation to round our edges, softening into the tenderness so crucial to our existence.
It’s good to have you here.
Disclaimer: Amy’s writing is distinct and separate from her work as a therapist. The Softening is not therapy or a mental health service, nor is it a substitute for mental health services of any kind. If you are looking for individualized support or therapy, please consult with your local mental health resources.
